Morton Lochs & Eden wildlife hides

Sadly, many of us failed to secure tickets for the annual summer expedition to the Isle of May, so an alternative outing was arranged to view wildlife at Morton Lochs where ducks, swans, lots of garden birds, jays, woodpeckers and squirrels and if you are lucky; kingfishers, can be spotted. There are 5 hides, the first, close to the carpark, holds about 4/5 people with a feeding station to attract small birds and the occasional squirrel. Further into Tentsmuir Forest and further up the loch there are 2 other hides where a variety of water birds can be seen and a number of red squirrel feeding stations.

On the opposite side of the carpark down an old disused railway track there is another hide overlooking a smaller loch. Along the railway track numerous wildflowers and some beautiful wild orchids can be seen. Then we headed to the Guard Bridge Cafe beside the old bridge for lunch, followed by a visit to the nearby Eden Estuary wildlife hide on the way home. No ospreys or white tailed eagles on view that day! Maybe next time?
