DPA Looks Forward to Its Second Century
Following the successful celebration of its centenary, Dunfermline Photographic Association is looking ahead to the next chapter in its history and inviting photographers across Dunfermline and West Fife to help shape its future.
Founded in 1926, the Association has witnessed extraordinary changes in photography, from glass plates and darkrooms to digital cameras, drones and mobile phones. Yet the principles that inspired its founders remain unchanged: encouraging creativity, learning, friendship and a shared enjoyment of photography.

The club's centenary exhibition showcased both its rich heritage and the high standard of work being produced by today's members. It also highlighted the depth of photographic interest that exists throughout the Dunfermline area, where a number of clubs, groups and independent photographers pursue a wide range of photographic interests and skills.

As it enters its second century, DPA hopes to play an active role in bringing together this wider photographic community. By encouraging collaboration, sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for photographers to learn from one another, the Association believes it can help strengthen photography across the area while continuing to attract new generations of enthusiasts.
Photography today is more accessible than ever before. Whether using a mobile phone, compact camera or professional equipment, people are capturing and sharing images in ways that were unimaginable when the Association was founded. DPA aims to build on this enthusiasm by providing opportunities for photographers of all ages and abilities to develop their skills, gain inspiration and enjoy the company of others who share their passion.
The Association will continue to offer talks, competitions, mentoring, practical workshops and photographic outings while maintaining its involvement in regional and national competitions. At the same time, it hopes to develop stronger links with othe
r local groups and organisations to celebrate the diverse photographic talent that exists across Dunfermline and West Fife.
One hundred years after its foundation, Dunfermline Photographic Association remains committed to the belief that photography has the power to inspire creativity, preserve local history and bring people together. The club now looks forward with confidence to the opportunities and challenges of its second century.
