The club has evolved from film and slide to digital media. To keep up with change the club has introduced a mentoring scheme where members can get support in private, now in its 4th year. The annual season run from September through to April, and involve photo shoots and tutoring with summer activities encouraged and organised.
Due to COVID restrictions normal activities have moved from weekly meetings at the Netherton institute to online sessions using ZOOM meetings for competitions and photography talks. In addition to the this Website, we have an open Facebook page , a club You Tube Channel and are actively engaged in coordinating activities with other local Photography clubs. (DCC & KPS), and hope to reestablish the Schools competition after restrictions are removed.

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF PHOTOGRAPHY - 1926 - 2026
Founded in 1926, Dunfermline Photographic Association (DPA) is one of Scotland’s long-established camera clubs, welcoming photographers of all abilities — from complete beginners to international exhibitors and professional photographers. The club is affiliated with the Scottish Photographic Federation, giving members opportunities to participate in national and international competitions.
As DPA celebrates its centenary in 2026, the club continues to evolve with photography itself — from the early days of film, glass slides, and darkrooms to today’s digital imaging and multimedia creativity. Throughout its hundred-year history, the club has encouraged learning, artistic expression, and friendship through a shared passion for photography.
To support members at every stage of their photographic journey, DPA offers competitions, talks, practical demonstrations, outings, and skills development sessions. A mentoring scheme also provides one-to-one support for members wishing to develop their photography in a more personal setting. The main club season runs from September to April, with additional summer activities and photo outings organised throughout the year.
Club meetings are held on Tuesday evenings at the Dell Farquharson Institute, Netherton Broad Street, Dunfermline. Meetings include guest speakers, competitions, image critique evenings, and practical workshops covering a wide range of photographic styles and techniques.
The club maintains an active online presence through this website, an open Facebook page, a members’ Facebook community, and a YouTube channel. DPA also works closely with other local photographic clubs and organisations to encourage photography across the wider Dunfermline area.
As part of the centenary celebrations, the club is preserving and sharing elements of its history through archive storyboards, historical documents, photographs, and surviving club records retained by generations of club secretaries. The centenary exhibition and celebration event on 28 May 2026 will showcase the club’s photographic heritage alongside award-winning contemporary work from current members.
Visitors to the website can browse the Members’ Gallery, featuring a selection of images from DPA photographers past and present.
Further information about joining the club, meeting details, and directions to the Dell Farquharson Institute can be found in the “Contact & Meet” section.
