Bluebells-and other Attractions at Kinclaven Woods, Bankfoot May 2nd.

Updated: 3 days ago

The final excursion of our first century proved to be as notable for its company -and its strawberry tarts - as for the bluebells themselves.

The final excursion of our first century proved, I think, a most agreeable and fitting commencement to the Summer Season, the object of our journey being the photographing of the Bluebells—though not, as it transpired, our only interest of the day.

We assembled at our customary Park & Ride rendezvous and, by means of a well-organised distribution of motor cars, set off in good spirits for Bankfoot. There, in what can only be described as a most fortunate interruption to our labours, we partook of the hospitality of Perthshire. The strawberry tarts, prepared from local produce, were of such notable excellence that they commanded the full attention of the party, and for a time at least, photography was quite forgotten.

Having thus refreshed ourselves, and a group photograph having been taken whilst enthusiasm remained at its height, we proceeded to the woods.

The Bluebells, it must be admitted, were not quite at their finest, our visit being a trifle early in the season. Nevertheless, this did little to deter the company, who entered upon their photographic pursuits with commendable eagerness. In such pleasant surroundings, and in company no less so, the hours passed with surprising rapidity, and the time allotted to the excursion seemed all too brief.

Indeed, it may fairly be said that the social success of the outing rivalled its photographic achievements—thanks in no small measure to good company, fine weather, and tarts of uncommon distinction.

A selection of the photographs secured by those present is shown below.

Editor’s Note: In setting down this brief account, we may perhaps be permitted a moment’s reflection—that whilst one hundred years have now passed since the founding of the Club, the spirit of fellowship and shared enthusiasm which inspired its earliest members continues, happily, undiminished.
